Common Questions About Incorporation
-
If you are earning consistent revenue, signing contracts, working with clients, or hiring help, it is usually time to at least explore whether a corporation makes sense. The right timing depends on your income level, risk, and goals. In our intake and strategy call, we walk through your situation and let you know if incorporation is a good fit now or something to plan for later.
-
Both options can work for small businesses. An Ontario corporation is often a good fit if you primarily operate in Ontario. A federal corporation may be useful if you plan to expand nationally or want certain name protections. We will talk through your business model, where you operate, and your future plans, then recommend the route that matches your situation.
-
Depending on what your needs are, you can expect to add ~$300 to the cost for goverment filing fees.
-
Online services and some accountants can file basic incorporation documents, but they usually do not design your share structure, create a full minute book, or train you on how to keep your corporation compliant. This package includes legal advice from an Ontario business lawyer, customized documents, and training so you understand what you are signing and how to use your corporation well.
-
Your flat fee covers name search, articles, minute book, organizational resolutions, CRA number, HST registration, and your strategy and training sessions. Extra items such as detailed by-laws, additional resolutions, shareholder agreements, or complex tax planning are scoped and quoted separately so there are no surprises.
-
Yes. Many clients come back for client contracts, partnership agreements, and trademark help once their corporation is set up. Incorporation is often the first step in building a more protected and “uncopyable” business, and we can map out next legal steps with you in your post-incorporation meeting.
-
No. The information on this page is general and for education only. We only provide legal advice once we have met with you, confirmed we are the right fit, and signed a written retainer agreement. That protects both you and us and ensures you are getting advice tailored to your situation.
