Rachel’s Story

Legal Assistant & Paralegal Candidate

Rachel is a Legal Assistant at Zābo Law, where she brings together a diverse professional background rooted in administration, community services, customer relations, and legal studies. Based in Guelph, Rachel is currently a Paralegal Candidate preparing for the Law Society of Ontario Paralegal Licensing Examination.

Education and Legal Training

Rachel completed the two-year Paralegal program at Mohawk College with honours, building on her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Wilfrid Laurier University. Her education has provided a strong foundation in communication, critical thinking, legal procedure, and human behaviour, which are skills that continue to support her work in the legal field and her interactions with clients from a wide range of backgrounds.

Diverse Professional Experience

Before transitioning into law, Rachel spent nearly a decade in customer-facing and administrative roles that demanded professionalism, organization, and adaptability. She worked as an Administrative Assistant in a community-focused environment, where she supported day-to-day operations and developed a strong appreciation for detail-oriented work. She also volunteered with Correctional Service Canada, gaining valuable exposure to the legal and correctional systems and reinforcing her interest in the legal profession.

Earlier in her career, Rachel held several long-term roles in retail and customer service, experiences that strengthened her ability to communicate clearly, problem-solve under pressure, and work effectively with people from all walks of life. These experiences continue to influence her approach as a legal assistant, where empathy, patience, and reliability are just as important as procedural knowledge.

Commitment to Clients and Legal Support

During her paralegal studies, Rachel completed a student placement at a law firm before joining Zābo Law in her current role. She is recognized for her calm and dependable nature, strong organizational skills, and genuine commitment to supporting both clients and colleagues. Her combination of legal education and real-world experience allows her to approach each file with care, professionalism, and attention to detail.

Outside the Office

Outside of work, Rachel has a longstanding passion for horticulture, plants, and the natural world. Having spent years working in horticulture, she values the patience, consistency, and care that come with working closely with nature, which are qualities that also shape her professional approach. Whether assisting with legal matters or supporting the daily operations of a practice, Rachel is committed to bringing thoughtfulness, dedication, and a strong work ethic to everything she does.
